How to Choose a Newborn Photographer in Huntsville, Alabama

Choosing the Right Newborn Photographer in Huntsville, Alabama

Lifestyle vs. Studio Photography

No matter what time of year your little one is born, you want your newborn photos to be cozy and warm. Even in North Alabama where our summers get hot, soft and snuggly is THE vibe for newborn photos.

But how do you decide what type of photography is right for you? You see gorgeous studio photos of a baby bundled into a flowerpot alongside images of babies cuddled into their cribs and you wonder: what's the difference, and how to I decide?

Why You Should Choose Lifestyle Photography

Okay, you caught me. I'm biased. I promise, we'll get into the differences, and studio photography is GORGEOUS. It's not the worse option, I just adore in-home lifestyle newborn photos.

Lifestyle Photography is Peaceful and Personal

Lifestyle gives you a glimpse into the in-between moments that make up most of your life. In these images you'll find connection and comfort, a record of the relationship forming between you and your baby.

Okay, I'll get down off my soapbox. Let's talk differences.

Lifestyle Photography is Go-With-the-Flow

If you enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, in-home lifestyle is for you.

When I arrive at your home for a newborn session, I'm already taking deep breaths. I want to bring a laid-back vibe to your house, to set you at ease and let you cuddle that sweet babe while my camera just soaks it all in.

I'll make sure the light is beautiful and that we can see baby's face, but mostly I'll encourage you to just love on your little one. And if you need to feed baby or change a diaper, we can incorporate those newborn activities into your session. After all, that's what this stage is all about.

You might prefer a studio session if you like very specific instructions.

Studio sessions (which I do offer!) tend to be more structured with less "downtime" and more specific placement. If that sounds like you, we can make it happen!

Lifestyle Photographs Emphasize Connection

If you want to include your family, lifestyle is the way to go.

An in-home lifestyle session is very much what it sounds like: a session that shows your home, who lives in it, and what your life is like. That includes spouses, siblings, and even pets.

You'll end up with photos of the people who matter most welcoming your newborn into the world.

If you want a quicker, smaller experience, studio photography is right up your alley.

Because a studio is smaller than your entire home, we usually don't want a crowd - especially with a little one. Instead, you get a different kind of intimacy. In your home, you get the closeness of family; that can mean just you and baby or your whole family. For a studio session, we're probably just going to have you and baby, and maybe hubby. If that sounds like your vibe, studio is for you!

Lifestyle Images are Candid

In lifestyle photography, honesty is queen.

Honesty doesn't mean you're not wearing makeup or a beautiful dress (although you should always do what's comfortable for you). Honesty means you aren't posing. You aren't doing anything that feels uncomfortable. You're just being with baby, whatever that looks like, tears and poop or cuddles and sleep.

I promise, I've seen it all - I have three of my own! - and I can take beautiful photos in just about any situation. Motherhood is beautiful in all its mess; if that sounds appealing, you should choose lifestyle.

Studio photography is polished.

In a studio, everything is very controlled and the photos convey that atmosphere. You'll definitely see more posing and less playfulness - although not necessarily. Your studio session can be whatever you make it, but if a polished look is what you want, you should choose studio for sure!
