Why you should book an in-home family photoshoot

Ok, I have a confession.

I have a favorite.

And it's not a favorite child (definitely do not have one of those).

It's a favorite photoshoot location.

I know I should say that I love all types of sessions equally, but the truth is that isn't fully true.

Ever since moving my business to Huntsville Alabama I have been drawn to one type of session most of all and its in-home family photoshoots.

This sweet family has been doing sessions with me every year for the past four years and I'be been gently nudging them to try an in-home session.

K finally hit the green light on it this year and I am SO glad that she did!

So as I share these gorgeous images with you, let me also share with you a few of the reasons why I think these sessions may just be as good as it gets!

Your safe space

Your home is your safe space. It's where your kids feel the most free to be themselves. They have all of their favorite things right at their fingertips and the comfort of knowing that they are in somewhere familiar and loved.

For the shy little ones or the teenager that doesn't like to socialize much, this can be the perfect chance to really draw them out.

The things you love

Your home has all of the activities that feel really normal to your family.

I love that kids want to be my tour guide when I come to an in-home session. They most likely will want me to see their toys or watch you do something that you regularly do as a family. This takes the pressure off of performing for the camera and allows you just to be yourself doing your normal, every day things.

The results, however, will be far from "normal." These images will take your every-day ordinary and turn them into something extraordinary.

Variety of Spaces

Within one home you will have several different backdrops to choose from. Don't worry, you don't have to clean or use your entire home! But you can focus on 1-3 rooms that have good window light and that you love spending time in. I'll help you plan out what spots will be best for your family's images, but the end result is a beautiful variety of images to choose from.

Tangible, anchored memories

When you see an image of your and your children taken in your home there's an automatic anchoring that happens.

All pictures hold value and have the ability to stir emotion.

But portraits taken in your home will immediately activate so many of your senses when you see them. The familiar sounds in that space. The way a certain room smelled. The light that comes in at certain times in certain ways. Physical triggers will be attached to each image in a way that allows you to remember the days that are so easy to forget.

Simple Wardrobe

Does the thought of coordinating multiple outfits feel so overwhelming to you?

1. Don't worry (indoor or outdoor session, styling is an included service when you work with me).

2. In-home sessions are the most carefree sessions when it comes to wardrobe. You likely already have everything you need at home. The focus is on these feeling natural and reflective of who you are as a family. So no need for elaborate dresses or perfect coordination.

An in-home session is simple start to finish!
