Imagine the first few days of snuggling your new baby.
The squeaky cries.
The scrunchy faces.
Counting each finger and toe.
The smell of a brand new little person as they sleep on your chest.
Now imagine that a little piece of this magical time could be captured in photos.
A fresh 48 session captures these special moments to save and treasure for later.
Let's chat about what to expect from a session like this.
A fresh 48 session is exactly what it sounds like! Your photographer of choice (who you have chosen carefully and planned with extensively) comes to the hospital, birthing center, or your home in the first 48 hours after you give birth.
These photos are not birth pictures. Instead, they capture the golden hours after baby enters the world.
You might be thinking, wait, if I've just had a baby and I'm recovering and exhausted, how am I going to be comfortable with pictures? (If you're not thinking that, scroll on and enjoy that confidence, friend).
As with all photo sessions, you can make plans with your photographer. Talk about your worries, boundaries, your privacy wishes, etc.
Maybe you don't want breastfeeding pictures. Maybe you want to just stay in bed. Maybe you don't want to be photographed in the bed at all. You get to decide.
Ultimately, these sessions tend to be very intimate, sweet, and full of joy.
In these sessions, we zoom in on your little one, capturing all those intricate details you want to remember, like:
The way they just want to curl back into the same position they were in the womb.
Their hospital bracelets around their little ankles or wrists.
The color of that soft, fine baby hair.
Perfect fingernails.
The little nose wrinkle they do when the light turns on.
This is an opportunity to point out all the things you are already in love with about your baby.
Some of the sweetest pictures during fresh 48 sessions are those capturing the budding relationships between baby and your family. Whether it's dad getting some quality skin to skin time or an older sibling meeting baby, or even a grandparent coming to say hello, this session is full of beginnings to capture and look back on.
Items that bring out your family history and personality are always a welcome addition to a photo session. Consider the below list of items that, if you have them, you might want to use in your shoot.
Ultimately, the goal of a fresh 48 session is to photograph your new family member in all their wrinkly, adorable glory. We want to capture the relationship you are starting and the reality of your family. When you look back at these pictures, I hope you will see yourself as you truly were in this moment and treasure that memory.
