How to Get Your Kids Involved in the Christmas Season

We all know that most kids love Christmas morning, and who can blame them? Stockings full of treats and a living room full of presents would make any kid cheer. If you're anything like me though, you like to get your kids involved beyond just asking for and receiving gifts. So today, let's talk about some ways to get those kids involved in Christmas all season long.

Gift Giving

While you are making your list of everyone who needs a gift, invite your kids to brainstorm with you. Ask them what they think family members would enjoy by talking about your family's hobbies. Maybe even let them pick out their own small gifts to give out. This is a great way for them to experience the joy of generosity, and can become a fun annual activity for the whole family.

Kindness to the Community

The Christmas season offers many opportunities for service and kindness throughout your community. Maybe you'd like to participate in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, either in person or online. Many nursing homes are happy to have families or groups come and sing Christmas carols for their residents. Even little things, like leaving a Christmas card for your mail delivery person or putting out snacks for Amazon delivery drivers, are wonderful ways to get your kids involved in being kind to their community.

Volunteering

Soup kitchens, hospitals, clinics, and non-profits have many opportunities to volunteer during the Christmas season. Volunteering with them takes community involvement to a new level, allowing you and your family to help others in a tangible way. Check out this list for opportunities in the Huntsville area!

Whatever you decide on, bringing kids along for the ride during Christmas is a beautiful to get them involved and teach them to look at the world through another person's eyes.
